Storage Devices

Today we are going to examine different types of storage devices. After you create a document or anything worth saving, you have to store it as a computer file on a storage device. Here in front of me are some common storage devices:

First, you see the floppy disk. It holds 1.4 MB of data – about a 100 page Word document with no images. 40 years old and still working!

Next is a recordable CD. Wow – this holds 650 MB of data or almost 500 times more data than this guy (hold up floppy) – and cheaper too! But you must have a CD-RW drive to create one at home.

And here we have a flash drive. The flash drive falls in between these two in storage capacity, however, is miles ahead in the ease of use. You just plug this into your USB port and your computer thinks that it is another disk drive.

And you can also carry it around your neck!
