Filters

Young children can stumble onto inappropriate sites when exploring the internet, if your computer is not protected by filtering software and you, the parent.

Filters fall in two types: one operates by loading software on your PC and the other is a filtering service provided by your Internet service provider. Both are capable of doing a good job.

Loading software on your PC usually has a one time purchase cost for a year’s worth of filtering. After a year, you pay to renew your software license.

Filtered services from your Internet service provider are more difficult to manage if you want to open sites that are blocked such as those regarding certain health issues or other items that might be legitimately searched.

Just know that no filter is perfect. Always, always, know what your kids are doing while surfing the web, because a filter never takes the place of a curious and caring parent.
